Jalandhar, February 19, 2015: All India Inter University Women Boxing Championship for 2014-15 declared open today at Lovely Professional University. Talented women student boxers from 70 Indian Universities have started contending with as per schedule and fixtures. The 58 bouts held, today, as Pre-Quarter finals presented an enthralling display of agility and aggression. All the boxers put on great performances with their hooks and punches in the rings. Following the great Indian boxer and their idol MC Mary Kom, all of the women-boxers seemed future ready to shine with glory in the world.
LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal declared the championship open by letting the multi-coloured balloons soar high in the sky. Motivating all the women-boxers & other participants at the championship, Mittal assured that LPU will continue supporting organizations of all kinds of national and international sports events including boxing. He wanted more of the girls should show their boxing skills to the world at Olympic Games to be featured in great stories later on. Senior members from AIU and Indian Boxing Federation praised the organising potentialities of LPU and appealed to keep on supporting the sports on more of the bigger platforms.
Illustrative, LPU is hosting 14 day All India Inter University Boxing (Men/Women) Championship at its campus from 19th February to 4th March 2015. In this prestigious event, 70 Indian universities are participating with their women boxer students and 94 universities with men boxers from all across India. Going for pre-quarter, quarter and semi-final bouts in 10 weight categories; women boxers will have final bouts on February 23; and, men-boxers will have final bouts on March 4.
In the first bout of the day for light fly weight (45-48 kg) Pallavi of Savitribai Phule Pune University (red corner) defeated Sumandeep Kaur from GNDU (Blue corner).
In the second bout of the day for light fly weight (48-51 kg) Bharti from (red corner) defeated Mamta of Vikram University of Ujjain (blue corner).
