Chandigarh, May 2, 2016: Bharti Kisan Union reacted sharply to the statement of Ravinder Cheema vice Chairman Mandi Board and President of Commission Agents Association that farmers are committing suicides to take compensation. BKU described his statement as cheap, insensitive, shameless and unpardonable.

In a press note issued by Bhupinder Singh Mann National President BKU, Ex MP, Baldev Singh Mianpur, President Punjab BKU, Gurbachan Singh Bajwa and Balwant Singh Behramke both General Secretary Punjab and Sukhwinder Singh Kahlon President District Gurdaspur, said that this basically reflects the mentality of Badal Government towards the farmers. They said that it is not possible that Cheema would issue such statement without approval of his bosses who have made him Vice Chairman of the Mandi Board. S Mann said that there is a deep rooted conspiracy behind these events. Had this not been the case, Badal should have thrown him out immediately.

The farmers’ leaders said that this statement has not only hurt the farmers but has deeply hurt all Punjabis. This statement is most condemnable and cannot be tolerated. They said that this cheap statement has come at a time when 2-3 farmers are committing suicides everyday. The farmers’ leaders further said that this statement is not pardonable and the farmers do not demand any apology for such grossly wrong act.

S. Mianpur said that the statement which has been got issued from Cheema shows that arrogance of power and money has gone into the heads of Akali rulers.

The leaders of BKU gave a call to all Kisan Organizations to unite and fight the injustice. Otherwise the day is not far when all farmers who raise their voices against injustice will be booked by Police in some false cases. Unless the organizations unite, the divisive and corrupt forces will keep looting the farmers.

The farmers’ leaders said that they do not know about the Kisan organizations who are puppets in the hands of Badals, but their organization will stand by any farmer organization or leader who is implicated in false case.
