Music Today announces the launch of Anirban Bhattacharyya's single "Albela Sajan". The track is the first release by Anirban who is a senior disciple of Padmashree Ajoy Chakraborty.
It is an attempt to present a traditional classical bandish in Rag Ahir Bhairav in a contemporary fusion soundscape keeping in mind the demand of the present times without compromising the authenticity of the raga. Sitar and Flute has been instrumental in the overall buildup of the song. From Electric Guitar to Drums to Khanjira, the song has been designed to be different but simple and crisp!
About Anirban Bhattacharyya -
Anirban Bhattacharyya is a Hindustani classical vocalist of the Patiyala tradition and a junior ethnomusicologist from Kolkata. A senior disciple of Padmashree Ajoy Chakraborty, Anirban aims to break the boundaries between different performance traditions and create a unique space for him. A President of India Gold and Silver Medalist from All India Radio in Khyal and Thumri, and Champion in Thumri from State Music Academy in 2010, Anirban is also a National Scholar in Rabindra Sangeet and had the opportunity of learning from and performing with the legendary Kathak maestro Padma Vibhushan Birju Maharaj all over India and abroad.
On the academic front, Anirban is an MSc from Calcutta University in Economics and an MMus from SOAS London, and has been invited to perform in some of the most prestigious festivals in UK including Darbar Festival and Dartington Festival. Anirban has toured Europe, US, and South Africa and had the privilege of performing in Royal Albert Hall in London along with Shankar Mahadevan. Anirban’s academic research on music focuses on the development of classical music in Calcutta.
