Chandigarh, January 8, 2016: National Security Advisor Mr Ajit Doval today "lauded the most effective and commendable Punjab response to a most difficult challenge thrown at the country by terrorists at Pathankot." The National Security Advisor, who was one of the key figures on top of managing India's "befitting reply" to the terror attack, phoned Mr Sukhbir SIngh in what is seen as center's acknowledgement and appreciation of the excellent response of the Punjab Government, especially of the  Punjab Police, whose prompt inputs and zero-time coordination with the central forces had earlier drawn appreciation from the Union Home Minister, Mr Rajnath SIngh also.
In his telephone conversation with Mr Badal, who also handles the Home portfoio in the Punjab government, Mr Ajit Doval had a special word of praise for " the commendable courage, professional competence and preparedness of your boys and senior officers. " Mr SUkhbir SIngh Badal, who was visibly moved by this gesture from the NSA, thanked Mr Doval and the Prime Minister for this "touching gesture of encouragement to Punjab's patriotic, brave and thoroughly professional men in uniform who have a reputation for making supreme sacrifices for the country, as was seen in a similar terror attack at Dina Nagar earlier last year.Your gesture will further steel the resolve of our brave constabulary and officers. "
Mr Badal emphasized that Pathankot attack, like the Dina Nagar terror attack, needed to be seen as “acts of barely disguised   foreign aggression. In Punjab, we have been fighting the nation's war carried out by our enemies through proxy means. But we must regard it as acts of war and our response needs to be firm not in just words but in the form of better and professional preparedness and willing to take the enemy on."
The Deputy Chief Minister also whole heartedly patted his men in uniform and said that the entire country was proud of the manner in which they had stood up to the challenge both at Pathankot and earlier at Dina Nagar."We are proud of our force and its patriotic, highly motivated and professional trained and skilled boys in uniform."
The Deputy later told newsmen that he was pursuing with the center, with considerable zeal and vehemence,  his proposal  to set up a second line of defence behind the BSF to latch on to any element that escapes the BSF net at the international border. “Considering the enormity of the task, we certainly need assistance from the center. We have the manpower and we the courgae and competence. What we fall short of is additional resources, and we expect the center to meet that part of the requirement."
He said that the  Punjab Police has the willingness, the experience and the professional competence to answer the need for such an impregnable fortress-wall to block any kind of invasion, open or disguised, " said Mr Badal.
