AISF Ludhiana held demonstration to condemn decision of government to close down 800 schools

Ludhiana, October 24, 2017: The All India Students Federation (AISF) Ludhiana held a demonstration at Mini Secretariat today to condemn the decision of the government to close down 800 schools. This is a totally retrograde step which will affect the education of the children from deprived sections seriously. As per the principle the school should be within one kilometer distance of the home of the children. With this move most of the schools will go much farther and parents will not send their wards to schools as poor parents cannot afford transport and children in most of the cases have to walk. This will affect education of girls more seriously whom the parents will avoid sending to distant schools. This move will also render large number of teachers jobless. The government should find cause behind less number of students in government schools. Lack of infrastructure is the basic cause of parents opting for private schools at the cost of their income. It has been seen that the government schools with better infrastructure have large number of students opting for these schools. It has been learnt that after closing 800 schools the government plans to close another 900 middle schools. The AISF submitted a memorandum to the district administration.
