Ludhiana, October 19, 2016: Aam Aadmi Party Kisan and Labour Wing General Secretary and MLA Candidate from Ludhiana West Ahbaab Singh Grewal today slammed the Punjab Government and its administration for its totally apathetic attitude in the killing of Harnek Singh, a 42 year old, by a police vehicle during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Ludhiana yesterday.
Ahbaab Singh Grewal said that “it is highly deplorable that an innocent man was killed by a police vehicle during preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit yesterday to the city. But what is even more shocking is that though an ASI of Punjab Police was posted only 50 metres away but no police personnel rushed to help the victim. To add to the cruelty, the family members were not informed till more than two and half hours after the accident. The inhumane attitude of the Administration can be gauged by the fact that the body of the victim was not handed over to his family even after 24 hours and it was only after a lot of efforts from Aam Aadmi Party volunteers that finally now the body has been handed over to the family. The apathy of this government and its officials is apparent by the fact that not a single official from either the police department or administration has bothered to visit the family instead they are putting pressure on the family to not press charges against the erring policemen.”
Ahbaab Singh Grewal further said that “the victim was the sole bread earner for his family which is living a very poor existence. Aam Aadmi Party volunteers have ensured that finally a report has been lodged against those who killed him and we will provide every legal assistance to the family. We will ensure that they get justice and adequate compensation. But this incident has further highlighted that the government and administration which claim to be very people friendly are highly arrogant and lack any compassion and empathy and the people of the state will soon give a befitting reply to this arrogance.”
