Bangalore/Mumbai, September 20, 2019: One of India’s leading providers of end-to-end cash & digital payment solutions and automation technology, AGS Transact Technologies Limited (AGSTTL), today announced that it will manage end-to-end automatic fare collection (AFC) for Bangalore Metro.

The AFC system will be implemented across 61 new stations in the phase II over the period of three years. The company will manage supply, installation as well as maintenance at these metro stations.

The contract is won by the consortium of AGSTTL along with MSI Global, wholly owned subsidiary of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore as the technology partner. Currently, there are 40 live stations of Bangalore metro with approx. 4 lakh transactions per day. In the current phase, token and paper tickets are being issued. Subsequently, QR code based tickets will be introduced for smartphone users and plans are also to introduce national common mobility card (one nation one card) in the phase II.

Ravi B. Goyal, Chairman & Managing Director, AGS Transact Technologies Limited, said, “We are delighted to be the technology partners for the phase II of the Bengaluru Metro. We believe that with our partner MSI Global, we will be able to help in the transition from token and paper tickets to QR based tickets. At AGSTTL, we believe that payment solutions such as the AFC System and QR Code tickets will establish a new benchmark for the transit industry and pave the way for smart travel in India. By offering an integrated structure of collection, compilation and computing for AFC system, we want to ensure that the commuter has an efficient and hassle-free experience.”

The AGS-MSI consortium AFC based ticketing system will use a combination of Open Loop Smart Cards, Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) and Quick Response Codes (QR Codes) to collect fares from the users minimising the need for cash transactions.

Ajay Seth, Managing Director, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, said, “We are committed to provide convenient and modern smart ticketing to metro commuters. The AFC system being procured through AGSTTL for 61 stations of phase II of the project shall enable BMRCL to implement NCMC (one nation one card). It shall also facilitate QR code and NFC based mobile ticketing options”.

Silvester Prakasam, Head Fare Systems of MSI stated that “Our partnership with AGSTTL turned out to be a winning combination in securing phase II of Bengaluru Metro. With AGSTTL’s expertise in the cash & digital payment solutions space in India and MSI expertise in ticketing, we are confident that we will achieve a smooth and phased launch of the expansion of Bengaluru Metro.”

AGSTTL forayed into the transit business in 2016. It currently manages AFC system for the Punjab Bus Metro Society at Amritsar. Through its AFC and Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) offerings, AGSTTL aims to bring together effective models of ticketing, payment and transparency to the travel infrastructure systems.
