Ludhiana, July 15, 2018: Ever since the drive against drugs was started by the Punjab government, the Chemist Association Ludhiana had gone on strike pertaining to some problems being faced by them. For the redressal of these problems, the representatives of Chemist Association Ludhiana held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal today, which was also attended by Civil Surgeon Ludhiana Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu.

During today’s meeting, the Deputy Commissioner assured the Chemists Association representatives of finding a suitable solution to their problems and urged them to take back their strike. The association members assured the Deputy Commissioner that they would take back the strike after their meeting with the Commissioner of Police. The Deputy Commissioner stated that from now on, checking would be carried out only in the presence of SDM or Tehsildar level officers. Earlier, the Health Department officials carry out checks on their own as per rules.

He said that the police officials should be intimated or their help should be taken only when something illegal thing is found from the chemist shop, otherwise the checking should be done by Civil or Health Department officials. He also asked the chemists to keep record of their shop fully updated and appealed that the chemists should not sell any kinds of drugs. Mr Agrawal directed the SDMs and SMOs to hold meetings with the chemists in their offices and the police officials should also attend them.

Civil Surgeon Dr Parvinderpal Singh Sidhu appealed to the chemists to take back their strike in human interest, to which the chemists assured in positive. The association members assured that if any chemist is involved in some illegal activity, then they would not support them.

The association members who attended today’s meeting included Mr Ashok Puri, President, Mr Gurbaksh Singh Chawla, state president, Mr Rakesh Kalra, General Secretary, Mr Vinod Sharma, Chairman, Mr Inderjit Singh, Mr Varinder Dhiman, Mr Karan Laadi, Mr Ashwani Kumar, Mr Rajwant, besides others.
