Jalandhar/Kapurthala October 22, 2018: After achieving the set goal to recruit 100 percent PhD faculty & state of the art modern infrastructure at I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University’s main campus successfully, Now University’s focus is on Advancement of Education, upliftment of routine working through, Vision clarity to staff and development of its constitute campuses. It was decided by University’s newly constituted Board of Governors (BOG) in its 68th Meeting. This meeting was chaired by Technocrat Dr.S.K. Salwan as Chairman Board of Governors.

Meeting was held at IKG PTU main campus and in the first phase an introductory session with board was held. After that Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar Sharma, Vice Chancellor welcomed all Board Members and put the current status and facts related to University’s Liability and Assets, Pending Plans & Actions, Details of Statutory Bodies, University’s Achievements, Facilitations to students, Distance Education Programmes, Construction details about sanctioned & planned projects, details of Affiliated Colleges, University Campus Courses, Faculty, students strength etc.

In term of Advancement of Education, University is going to re start the Regional Centres (RC) for working students to upgrade their education level. On initial stage the proposed part time courses are M.Tech & M.Pharm. The programme will start as RC in IKG PTU Main campus and constituent Campuses as well as leading affiliated institutions. University decided that the affiliated colleges who are with good infrastructure only may be considered as RC. The Officer Incharge of these programmes must be working at the institutions in the capacity of Professor/Associate Professor in the relevant discipline of Engineering & Technology/Pharmacy.

It was also decided that admission will be done in the branch of engineering/Pharmacy (M.Tech/M.Pharma) with a minimum No. of 06 students; otherwise course shall not be permitted in that academic session. Prof. Sharma said this decision will provide the working faculty to enhance their qualification which will improve the quality of Technical Education in Punjab.

Another agenda was related to promote technical education and Skill development in the state of Punjab and the project under deliberations was Tata Technologies Centre for Innovation, Invention & Incubation (CIIITs). In this regard recently University signed an initial MoU that in collaboration with IKG PTU, Tata Technologies will setup 5 Centers for Innovation, Invention & Incubation (CIIITs) in the state. As per MoU, CIIITs dedicated to Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji would be set up at Sultanpur Lodhi & IKG PTU Main Campus, Kapurthala and those dedicated to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji would be set up at Chamkaur Sahib and IKGPTU Campus Ladowali, Jalandhar.

University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Sharma shared the points of Advancement of Technology in term of University’s Way forward to future plans. He apprised board about the campus E-Governance modules like File Management System, Knowledge Management System, Tour Management System, Personnel Information System, Collaborative and Messaging Services, Leave Management System to facilitate staff and students. He also shared information about Campus Enterprise Resource Management Systems, E-Examination System, Interactive Campus Portal Platform, E-Campus Connectivity through fiber.

During meeting the members discussed about the vision of University and deliberations were made on E-education system. Common vision was to provide high-tech education by using technology like smart phones, apps and Internet services. It can also be used to provide education in far-flung areas where it may not be possible for teachers to be present personally. The education can be imparted through virtual means as part of the program. On behalf of University team, Vice Chancellor assured board to work on vision as mission. He shared a prepared Next Generation Network (NGN) plan as vision. This initiative to replace 30 year old exchanges, with this new IP-based technology to manage all types of services like voice, data, multimedia/ video and other types of communication services including all WiFi Campuses.

Development of University main campus and other campuses was also on agenda in which under constructions plans were discussed like Staff Residences including residence of VC & Registrar, Indoor and outdoor sports stadium, Guest House, Main entrance gates, Workshops and new blocks at other constituent campuses.

In the end Board gives satisfaction cum best wishes note to University’s in command authorities to fulfil their targets as early as best possible.
