Jalandhar, February 13, 2015: The students, staff and President of the College Governing Council Balbir Kaur, along with the members of the Management Committee today paid their obeisance at Sehaj Path held in the College Gurudwara today on the Barsi of Late Balbir Singh Ex-Member Parliament who remained the president of the College Governing Council for four decades. It is to Balbir Singh that the College owes its present status and reputation, thus ranking among the best institutions of the region. It was to his vision that the College became the pioneer institution to introduce courses in Computers and IT, Physiotherapy and Biotechnology in Punjab. A noted statesman, devoted educationist S. Balbir Singh also served as the Health and Family Welfare Minister of Punjab (1972-77), Member Rajya Sabha(1992-98) and Member Lok Sabha (1999-2004). He was the nephew of former Union Foreign Minister Swarn Singh.
On this occasion, Kirtan was recited by Bhai Ravinder Singh, Hazuri Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar. Recalling the unparalleled contribution of Late Balbir Singh to the College, and society at large, the Principal of the college Dr. G.S. Samra informed the press that Balbir Singh also remained a student of the College. He dedicated his entire life to the College and his ideals and vision stood as a light house to the college.
The occasion was marked by the presence of Members of the College Governing Council Jaspal Singh Waraich Joint Secretary and Kartar Kaur, Jagdeep Singh Shergill, Gurdeep Singh Sangha, Avtar Singh Kang, Ramandeep Singh, Ajay Pal Singh Dhillon, Parminder Beri, Pritam Singh Narangpur, Rajinder Singh DCP Jal., Tirath Singh Dhillon, Tejinder Singh Bittu, Daljit Singh Sahota, Harkishan Singh Bawa, Sukhbir Singh Chattha and the Members of the Management, and many other dignitaries from abroad along with principals and directors of Lyallpur Khalsa and KCL Group of Institutions.
