University College Of Physical Education Lifted Overall Championship Trophy
Talwandi Sabo, March 3, 2017: The two-day Annual Athletic Meet held on the sports grounds of Guru Kashi University (GKU), Talwandi Sabo, concluded today. It had a huge footfall of sports enthusiasts, students, staff and faculty of the GKU, its affiliate colleges and the nearby schools.
The closing program witnessed the welcome of the Chief Guest, Shri Onkar Singh, State Organizing Commissioner (Scouts), Punjab accompanied by S. Chand Singh, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Talwandi Sabo, and S.Amanpreet Singh Brar by the GKU Vice Chancellor, Col. Dr B.S. Dhaliwal and other dignitaries. The Chief Guest and other dignitaries were received on the GKU campus by the Managing Director, S. Sukhraj Singh Sidhu, Col Dr Bhupinder Singh Dhaliwal, the GKU Vice Chancellor, Dr Jagpal Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Registrar, Dr Narinder Singh,the Director Finance, Director Sports, Dr Ravi Sumal, and other senior officers of the University.
Captain Bhim Singh, the Asian Gold Medalist, Olympian, and Arjuna Awardee from Faridabad (Haryana) also graced the occasion on the second day of the meet. In his remarks the Chief Guest, S. Chand Singh stressed the need for being physical fit to face the challenge of life. He stressed on the need of leading a righteous life, for which physical fitness and discipline were the principle ingredients, he observed.
Shri Onkar Singh, addressing the Concluding Session said that sports can constructively and creatively channelize the enormous energy of our youth, who can play a great role in nation building. He said that India has more than 65 percent population of youth under 35 and thus sports and games should receive an impetus at the national level.
Mr Sukhraj Singh Sidhu, highlighted the GKU the sports activities that are being carried out on the campus together with the modern sports and game facilities and infrastructure.
Col Dr Bhupinder Singh Dhaliwal, the GKU Vice Chancellor, who himself had been an ex-army officer and a sports person said that one and all in the GKU have devotedly involved themselves to make this event a great success. He added that sports were complimentary to academics for a successful life.

Dr Jagpal Singh said that GKU is giving importance to extracurricular and sports activities to shape out the personality of students. He added that a balance between sports, discipline and academics must be there.
The GKU Registrar, Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, in his vote of thanks said with the availability of state of the art playgrounds, modern indoor and outdoor facilities, sports related equipment and experienced staff, the GKU has a distinction of being a well equipped University in the region as far as sports and games are concerned. He thanked the management, administration, students and faculty of GKU in making the event a great success.
In all 12 teams of various events from across the constituent colleges of GKU participated in the meet, said, Dr Ravinder Summal, Director Sports. The Athletic Event ended with lowering of GKU and participating College flags followed by the National Anthem. Dr J.S.Dhaliwal, Chancelor of GKU, S. Gurlabh Singh, Chairman, sent their best wishes and congratulated the organizers for the successful conduct of the event.

On the basis of overall performance University College of Physical Education lifted the overall Championship Trophy were as Suresh Kumar and Malkeet kaur, both from Physical Education College declared that best Athlete of the Meet.
