69TH NATIONAL JUNIOR BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS IN LUDHIANA

LUDHIANA, MAY 7, 2018: Punjab rural development and panchayat minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa on Monday inaugurated 69th national basketball championship in Ludhiana.

In this championship, 28 teams (boys) and 24 (girls) are participating from several states of the country. The minister announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh from his own discretionary funds.

Addressing the gathering, the minister stated that once Punjab was leading in sports from other states but in last decade, no attention was paid towards this area resulting in the graph of sports fallen sharply.

He told that the Congress government is very soon going to launch new sports policy for the all-around development of sports and sportspersons.The minister added the government would go beyond to help the sportspersons for arranging their best training so that they can perform better in the national and international games. He also appreciated the organizers of the championship.

Answering the questions of media persons, The minister said that Punjab government would hold consultations over the letter written by Haryana Chief Minister to Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to restricting the water of Ravi river flowing to Pakistan. He also claimed that Congress candidate would win Shahkot by-poll easily.

On the occasion, Former DGP Rajdeep Singh, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill, IGP Yurinder Singh Hayer, AIG Gurpreet Singh Toor, AIG Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, Senior Congress Leader Amarjeet Singh Tikka and several others were present.
