Chandigarh/Mohali, September 5, 2019: Underlining the importance of teachers’ role in nation building, the Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla has called upon the teachers to focus on to infuse moral values in the students.
After honouring 55 teachers with State Awards on the occasion of Teacher's Day today at the auditorium of the Punjab School Education Board, Singla said that the students are the future of the country and they have to lead the nation in the future, so it is very important to strengthen their foundations.
Singla honoured 55 teachers with the State Award and thus initiated the process to hand over the appointment letters to 1933 Head Teachers and Center Head Teachers who are directly recruited. He urged the teachers to play active role in shaping the future of the students and instilling a sense of nationalistic values in them. He said that the teachers are the guides of students who when dealing with the problems take counsel from the teachers. Thus, the teachers ensure the bright future of the country.
Congratulating the teachers who received the State Awards, the Education Minister remembered education expert, the great philosopher and the former President of India, the late Dr.Sarvapalli Radha Krishnan, whose birthday is celebrated as Teacher's Day. He said that the state government is fully committed for the welfare of the teachers and to provide a safe environment for them. At the same time, he also urged to the teaching community to fulfill their responsibilities with utmost commitment and sincerity.
Singla also appreciated Krishan Kumar Secretary School Education for shaping the transfer policy of teachers.
Meanwhile, the Education Minister also emphasized strengthening the school sports system and increasing sports activities in schools. He also talked about drafting a new sports policy. He said that sports are the one of tools of fitness for the children and they cannot be ignored.
He laid special emphasis on the education of poor children. The Education Minister further said that Punjab is the first state to focus on education policy and Right to Information under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and it has placed special emphasis on pre-school education policy.
In his address, Krishan Kumar, Secretary School Education, highlighted the initiatives taken by the department. While congratulating the award winning teachers, he said that other teachers would also be inspired to perform well. Referring to the direct recruitment, the Education Secretary said that this was done in a transparent manner.
On this occasion, the medalists of World Special Olympics, Abu Dhabi, were also honoured. On the occasion, 17 teachers were also given appreciation letters.
On the occasion, Mohammad Tayyab DGSE, Inderjit Singh Director State Education Research and Training Council (SCERT), Sukhjit Pal Singh DPI Secondary Education Punjab, Baldev Sachdeva vice chairman of education board were also present.

VIJAY INDER SINGLA RELEASES SMART SCHOOL POLICY 2019-20
Chandigarh, September 5, 2019: Providing further thrust to its agenda to ensure quality and value-based education for all, Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Thursday unveiled the Smart Schools Policy 2019-20 terming it as a major step which would augment the existing infrastructure thereby revolutionising the education sector in state.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister while underlining the government endeavour in sprucing up the existing facilities in state schools also exhorted the community leaders or representatives to come forward in complement the state efforts.
"I have already written to all MLAs requesting them to attract the attention of all those willing to contribute towards this noble cause," Singla added.
Referring to the Clause 7 of the policy, Singla said anybody could contribute for the improvement of infrastructure in the school as per its requirement and with the approval of the School Management Committee.
Such block or building within the school premises where the donne wants to contribute can be named after the donee or any of his relative provided such a person in whose name the block is named has/had good moral character and attained good reputation in the society. Such a proposal would be forwarded by the school on the portal and after obtaining the necessary confirmation regarding the donor or the person on whose name the building is to be named. Approval shall be granted online by the competent authority, Singla added.
Availability of classrooms, playground, educational parks, science labs, toilets etc. impact the quality of education, he said adding that various studies reveal that the performance of students in such schools is better than those who study in schools with poor and insufficient infrastructure. As many as 261 government high and senior secondary schools have already been converted into smart schools by the Department. Apart from this, around 2600 government schools have also been converted into smart schools with the help of school staff, CSR/NGO/NRIs and community, etc.
He said that a smart school, in the policy, is distinguished from any ordinary school. Smart school is a technology based teaching learning institution, which prepares children for the information and knowledge based society apart from making their holistic development. Each Smart school would have a separate classroom for every section of class as per Pupil Teacher Ratio, Spacious, airy and well ventilated classroom; Green board/white board.
Furniture for all students; besides Separate adequate number of functional toilets for girls and boys; Free sanitary napkins to girls; Well equipped Principal/Head Master room including staffroom would be provided to the smart schools. Well equipped science laboratories, vocational laboratories, ICT laboratories, etc. amongst other facilities.
Earlier, Secretary School Education Krishan Kumar while highlighting the various path breaking initiatives of state government underlined the need of proper facilities in ensuring overall development of a child.
Pertinently, in order to strengthen school education and improve learning levels of students through ICT based education in Government schools, the Department of School Education Punjab had been converting government schools into Smart Schools.
Senior officers of school education department were also present on this occasion.

STATE LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY ORGANIZES SEMINAR TO MARK TEACHER’S DAY
Chandigarh/ Mohali 5, 2019: On the Occasion of Teacher’s Day, a seminar was organized at Army Institute of Law, Sector 68, Mohali by Punjab State Legal Services Authority. During the seminar, Dr.Mandeep Mittal, Additional Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority encouraged 250 students to build their aspirations and constantly work on it.
He apprised the Law Students about various aspects of Legal Services Authority and motivated them to participate in the activities of Punjab Legal Services Authority by way of Para Legal Volunteer Scheme and spread awareness about the existence of Legal Services Institutions to the masses. The Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) are expected to act as intermediaries bridging the gap between the common people and the Legal Services Institutions to remove impediments in access to justice. Ultimately, the process aims at Legal Services Institutions reaching out to the people at their doorsteps rather than people approaching such Legal Services Institutions.
During the seminar, Dr.Mittal informed that Punjab State Legal Services Authority is providing Free Legal Aid to the weaker and marginalized segments of the society.
