4th National Linguistics & Folklore Conference Concludes at GKU

Talwandi Sabo, April 21, 2016: Two day long 4th All India Conference of Linguistics & Folklore concluded at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo. Punjabi Department of GKU organized the National Conference under the worthy guidance of Management and Dr.N.S.Malhi, Vice Chancellor GKU. Delegates from 22 States of the nation presented around 70 papers on the concerned theme.
Dr.B.S. Dhaliwal, Dean Academics GKU welcomed all after the inaugural ceremony. Dr. B.S. Khaira (President, PLA) shared the objectives and working of the Punjabi Linguistics Association with the audience. Dr. Joginder Singh Puar (Former VC Punabi University, Patiala) keynote speaker in linguistics stated that Punjabi as a language don’t have deep roots to stay long. Being Punjabis we must contribute towards the strength and long life of the Punjabi language.
Dr. Gurmeet Singh Keynote speaker of the folklore stated that in today’s world of Liberalization, Privatization, Globalization (LPG), folklore is proved to be medium to fill the gaps in social lives. Dr. Nahar Singh (Panjab University, Chandigarh) delivered guest lecture on folklore and shared the correlation between the folklore and media. He further requested the research scholars to do maximum work on this relation for the sake of the society.
Apart from above Dr. Jagjit Singh (Panjab University Chandigarh), Dr. Rajinder Singh (North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala) and other eminent personalities discussed their rich views in the field of language and folklore.
On the Ist day evening the famous Bhagtu Wale Babe were the show stealer with their Malwai Giddha performance. Noted Punjabi singer Harinder Sandhu and Prof. Jaspal Singh, HoD Music Deptt. GKU also entertained the audience with his melodious voice. Concluding report of the conference was presented by Dr. Jasbir Singh Sidhu, DSW of GKU and Dr. Balwant Singh Sandhu HoD Punjabi.
Dr. J.S. Dhaliwal Chancellor congratulated Dr. Harpreet and other staff members for conducting such a mega event in the field of Language & Folklore. Dr. N.S. Malhi, VC GKU thanked everyone to concord on single platform in GKU. Dr. Harpreet Kaur Aulakh delivered vote of thanks to everyone present in the conference and for the co-operation to make this National Conference a grand success.
Apart from others Dr. Yograj Singh, Dr. Jaswinder Saini, Dr. Surjeet, Dr. S. Khahra, Dr. Darya, Dr. Jagdish Kaur, Dr. Sumanpreet Kaur, Dr. Karamjeet Singh and representatives mainly from Himachal Pardes, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Telangana etc. were present.
