3rd day of INSPIRE Camp at HMV

Jalandhar, January 8, 2015: A 5-day Inspire Internship Camp 2015 is being organised in the campus of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar with the sponsorship of Department of Science and Tech., Govt. of India.  On the 3rd day of the camp, in the first session, Dr. A.S. Ahluwalia from Botany Department of Panjab University Chandigarh was the resource person.  His topic of discussion was ‘Perils of Pollution’.  He told the students that the day is not for when we will have to carry our own gas cylinders for oxygen.  He urged the students to keep water, rivers and land clean because if we want to live healthy, we need a healthy environment.  He also laid stress on looking for alternative sources of energy.  Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj said that energy saving is the need of the hour.

In the second session, Prof. G. Mariamuthu from Madhurai Kamraj University, Madhurai deliberated upon ‘Biology and Behaviour of Bats’.  He described what kind of methods do bats use for detecting prey even if they are blinded.  He told the students what he learnt in 36years of his research life.  In the 3rd session, Dr. Vandana Bhalla, from Deptt. of Chemistry, GNDU Amritsar explained the role of Chemistry for better living.  She evoked the interest of students in Chemistry by explaining the fundamentals of Chemistry. 

In the evening session, D.S. Chhabra from Doaba College Jalandhar deliberated on the topic ‘Teaching Technologies in Mathematics’.  The students enjoyed this interactive session.  The students also performed practicals of Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.  On this occasion, Camp Coordinator and Head of Bioinformatics Department Harpreet Singh and all the science teachers were present.
