366897 tonnes paddy procured in Punjab

Chandigarh, October 9, 2014: Paddy procurement has started picking up momentum with Government agencies and private millers procuring more than 366897 tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1806 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab government said that out of total procurement of 366897 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 290678 tonnes (79.2%) of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 76219 tonnes (20.8%) of paddy. Till October 8, PUNGRAIN procured 87750 tones (30.2%), MARKFED procured 71562 tones (24.6%) whereas PUNSUP had procured 62018 tones (21.3%) PSWC procured 23288 tones (8.0%) whereas PAFC was able to procure 27966 tones (9.6%) of paddy. The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 18094 tones (6.2%).
The spokesman added that District Taran Tran with 51925 tones of procurement was still leading in procurement operations whereas District Jalandhar with 47973 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Faridkot with 39800 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
