Ludhiana, October 20, 2017: The 32nd Annual General body meeting of the Institution of Engineers (India), Ludhiana local centre was held at the institution building, Dugri Road, Ludhiana. This celebration coincided with the celebration of World Standards Day. Over 70 corporate members attended the function. Er.Lalit Sharma, Director, Punjab Pollution Control Board and industrialist was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Welcoming the chief guest, Brig.Mastinder Singh, SM, Chairman, Ludhiana Centre said that in order to fulfill the dream of Prime Minister of smart cities, standards must be set. Reading out the annual report of the Ludhiana centre, Er. Gurpreet Singh Walia, Honorary Secretary informed that the Ludhiana centre has been actively involved in conduct of various technical activities. he informed the house that all statutory days along with expert lectures on varied topics like solid waste management, milk adulteration etc. were organized during the year. He also presented the balance sheet for the past year. He was upbeat in announcing the membership of institution has shown a steady growth over the years.
To celebrate the World Standards day on the theme of Standards Make cities smarter, a technical lecture was delivered by Dr. Varinderjit Rai, Principal, Bhutta College of Engineering and Prof. Harinder Kaur. They highlighted as to why standards were required fro cities. They highlighted various areas where standards are required viz. Sanitation, Water Supply, Construction etc. They also gave a broad outline on how these standards could be evolved.
In his address, Er. Lalit Sharma, Chief Guest exhorted the youth to come up with novel ideas to solve the problems being faced by the cities of modern day. He gave statistical reference to the water consumption, pollution levels in Ludhiana.
The student volunteers of Students Chapter at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana also participated in the function. Delivering vote of thanks, Dr. Arvind Dhingra appreciated the efforts of one and all for making the function a success. The function ended with the national anthem.
