Ludhiana, July 15, 2018: Workshop on `Practical Diagnosis & Management of Allergies’ was organised by Fortis Hospital Ludhiana. Event was organised under the supervision of Dr.Rajat Bhatia, Senior Consultant, ENT, Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana. ENT doctors from across the region participated. Allergy Clinic was also launched during the event.

Dr (Major) K Nagaraju Prof and Head, Dept. of Allergy & Clinical Immunology, Director. Saveetha Medical College & University, Chennai and Dr Abrol from Chandigarh were the guest-speaker and talked about Important Procedural Tips for Skin Prick Test.

While speaking on the occasion Dr. Bhatia said Allergies, also known as allergic diseases. Syndromes include fever, food allergies, atopic dermatitis, asthma and anaphylaxis. Symptoms may include: Red eyes, Itching and rashes, Sneezing, Running nose, Breathing problems or swelling. Food intolerances and food poisoning are separate conditions.

Dr. Bhatia further added that about 20% of people are affected by allergic rhinitis, 30-40% of people are suffering from some types of allergies, 6% of people have at least food allergy, and about 20% have atopic dermatitis at some point in time. 1–18% of people are suffering with asthma. Anaphylaxis occurs in between 0.05–2% of people. Rates of many allergic diseases appear to be increasing.

The event was followed by live allergy testing by doing Skin Prick Test (SPT) on patients and was attended by eminent ENT Surgeons, Physicians, Pediatricians and Dermatologists from Ludhiana. SPT was done on 5 to 6 patients who were counseled regards prevention of allergy and immunotherapy.

Mr. Vivan Singh Gill, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, congratulated Dr Rajat Bhatia and said the allergy clinic will be a new milestone for the treatment of allergy patients of Punjab
