Jobs of the future are those that machines can not do: Anil Kumar Kutty: President, KVRSS Hyderabad, May 11, 2019: Dr.B.N.Suresh, Chancellor of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, IIST at Thiruvanthapuram and Honorary Distinguished Professor at ISRO HQ, Bangalore Saturday night delivered DR.K.V Rao Memorial Oration “Science and Technology for the betterment of the Society” here in the city at Conference Hall at National Institute of Nutrition, Tarnaka. Speaking on the occasion he said Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation are very important. They all need to be integrated. Suresh said thanks to the first Prime Minister of India we could have many premier science institutions and research organizations such as Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd, Atomic Energy. The US military entirely funded, improved, and maintains the Global Positioning & timing System (GPS). Today we are so much dependent on this that the day USA decides to restrictions on using it the whole world will get into trouble. GPs generally falls into categories such as Locaiton, Navigation, Tracking, Mapping and Timing. Mining, Aviation, Surveying, Agriculture, Marine and Military use it extensively. Science and Technology doesn’t get the much need attention in this country, he said. Though we have largest youth population in the globe, but the number of scientific papers and researches done very few, he observed. Earlier welcoming the gathering Mr. Anil Kumar Kutty, President OF Dr. K.V. Rao Scientific Society said new technologies are affecting all of us and especially those who are entering the workforce now. According to McKinsey Global report, as much as 30 percent tasks across 60 per cent of occupations can get computerized and will be taken over by robots. According to World Economic Forum, 65 percent of school students will get into completely new jobs that do not exist now. So the jobs of the future will be are those which machines can’t do. Jobs are those which rely on Innovation, Creative Expression, Social Interaction, Empathy and Collaboration. Giving her annual report, Dr. K. Ratna, Secretary of Dr K. V. Rao Scientific Society said the society has embarked on its journey of science promotion and popularization since 2001. And it has been involved in encouraging child scientists, young scientists in pursuit of science and research. The Society is entering its 20th year. It is also the Centenary year of Dr. K.V. Rao who was born in the year 1920. So in honour of Dr. Rao, a memorial room has been created at KVRSS office to showcase his research and personal achievements. To celebrate the occasion and popularize science more we will get into more diversified activities. These include: An Online Quiz; series of scientific lectures, talks, science speaking contests, summer workshops etc, she informed. The Oration lecture was followed by Dr. K.V. Rao Scientific Society’s 19th Annual Science Awards 2018-19 to Research Scholars and School Students. Some of the award winners include: Karun Vattakavil, Shreya Chillara, Nikesh Kumar, Ananya, Anudeep, Hardik Patel, Surya Mutharadu, Aishik Pal, Anindya Biswas, N Durg, P. Devi PRIYA and others. This was an event Celebrating excellence in Science commented Dr. K. Ratna, Secretary of the Society. The Annual Science Awards include: Science Quiz, School Talent, SPARK Innovation, and Research Awards Dr. R. Hemalatha, Director, National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad also graced as the chief guest to the function. The Society was founded by the family in memory of Dr. K.V. Rao, an eminent Scientist of yester years who worked with Geological Survey of India. Dr. K.V Rao Society has been working hard for the past 18years for the cause of popularizing science among school children and enthusing young minds towards pursuing a career in science.
