Ludhiana, July 28, 2015: A 21-day summer school on “Entrepreneurship Development Programme” concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The Department of Extension Education, PAU coordinated the course wherein scientists from Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab participated.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr H.S. Dhaliwal, Dean, College of Agriculture, said, “Entrepreneurship development is need of the hour.” Such courses aim at teaching better and updating the knowledge of the participants, he added. Dr Dhaliwal exhorted the participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained from this training to their respective fields of research, teaching and extension. Later, he distributed the certificates among the participants. He also appreciated the efforts of the department in the organization of the course.
Earlier, Dr R.K. Kalra, Head of the department and the Course Director, welcomed the chief guest and the participants. She said the course provided a complete picture of entrepreneurship in terms of self assessment, self reflection, SWOT analysis, communication skills, motivation, decision making and leadership. The course also shed light on setting up of micro and macro level enterprises in fruits, vegetables, floriculture and landscaping, beekeeping, mushroom, organic farming, and post harvest management, she informed. Besides, emphasis was on grass root level processing, agri-tourism, dairy farming, cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, and agro-forestry, she added. Apart from this, the participants were familiarised with the functioning of organizations such as NABARD, FAPRO, MARKFED, PAMETI, KVKs, Cooperatives, etc.
Dr J.S. Bhalla, Professor of Extension Education, while proposing the vote of thanks, said that scientists, academicians and entrepreneurs delivered lectures of prime importance. Field visits to various successful enterprises of Punjab were also organized, he added.
Dr Abdul Hai Bhatt and Dr R.G.Mardane shared their views about the summer school on the behalf of participants. They said all the participants were impressed by the topics touched during the programme on entrepreneurship development. They also praised PAU for providing them good facilities during their stay and for the hospitality of the host institute.
