2 die, 6 injured in blast at scrap dealers shop

Ludhiana, October 6, 2012: Two persons died on the spot and six others were seriously injured in a blast at a scrap dealer's shop near Samrala Chowk here this afternoon.

As per the available details, the workers were dealing in scrap that had arrived from Gulf countries.

While working to segregate scrap, a powerful blast occurred all of a sudden. As a result, two workers died on the spot. Six others were injured in the blast.

Of the injured, five seriously injured have been admitted in a private hospital. Another worker who has sustained minor injuries has been admitted into Civil Hospital.

A sensation was created in the area after people in the nearby area heard noise of powerful blast.

A huge curious crowd had got assembled on the spot so see as to what had happened.  

The incident occurred at around 12-15 p.m.

Police parties immediately rushed to the spot. Dog squad was also put into the service.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gurpreet Singh Toor also visited the spot.

DCP told the media persons that two people had died and six others injured.

Further police investigation is in progress. Police are trying to find out as to where from the scrap had arrived in the concerned scrap dealers shop.
