18th Dr M.S. Randhawa Annual Flower Show kicks off at PAU

Ludhiana, February 25, 2015: Flower enthusiasts in large number thronged the “18th Dr M.S. Randhawa Annual Flower Show and Competition,” which began at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. Multi-hued varieties of flowers and beautiful green plants under heavy rain, provided a ravishing sight to the visiting spectators. Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU inaugurated the two-day show, jointly organized by the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, Estate Organization and Department of Family Resource Management, PAU.

In his remarks, Dr Dhillon said that flowers play a key role in the beautification of surroundings and relieving stress. He appealed to every household to grow ornamentals for healthy environment. Dr Dhillon also emphasized that the flowering trees must be used freely in bio-aesthetic planning of roads, parks and new townships. Paying floral tributes to Dr MS Randhawa, former Vice-Chancellor, PAU; he wished that the display of the flowers will convey a strong message to the people to love nature and live in peace and harmony.

Earlier, Dr Premjit Singh, Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, said that the flower show has received huge response from the flower lovers, city schools and colleges, amateurs, nurseries, individuals, etc. “The participating students have beautifully designed hair rings, bracelets, gajras and button holes from diverse and colourful varieties of flowers,” he added. The fresh and dry flower arrangements exhibit the aesthetic sense of the students, who have given best captions like Sunshine, Spring Fever, Wild Delight, Classic Beauty, Designer Castle, and The Bold and the Beautiful. Dr Singh said that various nurseries have put up the best of their plants in the show and city dwellers can buy best plant material under one roof.

Present on the occasion were senior officials, faculty and students of the University.
