Ludhiana, September 16, 2016: A rare surgery was performed on an 11 year old boy by Paediatric Surgeon Dr.Divya Bhadoo at SPS Hospital on Friday. This child came with abdominal pain which was troubling him for last 5 years. He was diagnosed as a case of massive a abdominal tumour (Lymphangioma) on CT scan by our radiologist Dr Damandeep Singh.

After detailed discussion with parents of the child and anaesthesia clearance, surgery was planned. He was admitted on August 31 and prepared for surgery by team of Dr Bhadoo, Dr Vikas Bansal and Dr.Mehak Bansal, Paediatric Intensivists. The Surgery was done in September by a team headed by Dr Bhadoo while anaesthesia team was headed by Dr Naresh Anand. Dr. Pawan and Dr. Bhawna were other members of this team.

A tumour weighing 1.8 Kg which was filling almost entire abdomen, was removed completely in a marathon surgery lasting 4 and half hours. A part of intestine encased by the tumour also needed to be removed. The child was kept in Paediatric ICU post-operatively overnight and shifted to the ward the next day. He is recovering well under care of Paediatric Surgery and Paediatrics.

Dr. Bhadoo told that this is a rare abdominal tumour of children and to achieve complete removal of this is even rarer. He said that this rare feat at SPS Hospital was made possible with a great team effort by Paediatric Surgery, Paediatrics, Anaesthesia and Radiology departments He also congratulated all the team members for this great achievement.
