Ferozepur, October 5, 2012: The Zira police have booked 18 persons under Mining and Mineral Development and Regulation Act 1957, for carrying out illegal sand mining and transporting of minerals despite a ban by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. However, two persons have been arrested by the police alongwith truck.
Divulging the information, SI Madan Lal said, the Zira police have registered a case against Subegh Singh, Mukhtiar Sinh and Major Singh for allegedly illegal mining of sand, at village Behak Pachharian.
SI Iqbal Singh informed, on the basis of written complaint from General Manager-cum-Mining Officer, District Industries Centre, Ferozepur, the police have registered a case Gyan Singh, Jaswant Singh, Joga Singh, Rachhpal Singh, Suchha Singh, Balvir Singh, Jagir Singh and against the drivers for operating 4 JCB machine under section 379 IPC and MMDR Act, Tarsem Singh of Mangewala, Seon Singh of Bariwala (Sangrur), Joginder Singh of Deviwala (Faridkot), Amrit Singh of Sherpur Takhtuwala and two unknown drivers of vehicles (No.RJ 31G 3388 and PB 29-0923).
According to Darshan Singh, SI, in another case, on the basis of complaint from District Mining Office, Ferozepur, Satvir Singh son of Hazari Ram and Satvir Singh son of Chhotu Ram have been arrested for illegal mining and transporting of sand in ten tyre trucks and a case has been registered against them.
