Dharamshala, November 29, 2019: Nobel Peace laureate Dalai Lama told the religious heads who gathered in Dharamshala for 14th Tibetan Religious Conference on reincarnation that there is no need to think about his reincarnation, when the present Dalai Lama is healthy and going well. Tibetan spiritual leader the 14th Dalai Lama has said today that there should be no hurry about his reincarnation as he is quite well.
Addressing on the closing ceremony of the 14th Buddhist conference here in north Indian hill town Dharmashala the Dalai Lama said, “All of you discussed a lot about my reincarnation. I am 84 or 85 years old and I am quite well so why are you in a hurry about my reincarnation. We will work for the betterment of the world and this will make us happy…”
He said I am fine physically and mentally. He quoted a question by a journalist from US few years ago, who asked about his reincarnation, to which he took out his glasses and asked him is there any hurry to talk about that.
He also said, “I have already requested that our Tibetan monasteries should focus more on studies, enchanting mantras only is not enough. Knowledge and education should be the base.”
Karma Gelek, religion and Culture minister on Tibetan government in-exile says, “This session is mainly for his holiness to address the conference. First of all we reported what happened during the last two days and about the agendas and later on we requested Him to address. He addressed and touched a wide range of topics about Tibetans and general Buddhist subjects. He didn’t specifically said about his reincarnation but he indicated that there is no hurry About his reincarnation. He said he is physically extremely well and mentally extremely happy so there is no hurry in talking about this subject.”
The 3 days 14th conference of all the Schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon Tradition was organized in Dharmashala by the department of Religion and culture of the Tibetan government in-exile, which started in Upper Dharamshala on 27 th November and concluded today.
Heads and representative of all Buddhist sects attended the conference. The main agenda of this conference was to discuss the reincarnation issue of the Dalai Lama.
Ever since 1969, when asked about his next reincarnation, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has told the international media that it was a matter to be decided by the Tibetan people. As it stands now, it is important for the Tibetan people to enact a legitimate stand on the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation. In that light, a necessary special resolution on reincarnation was passed earlier at the 14th Tibetan Religious Conference urging the Dalai Lama to reincarnate according to Tibetan traditions and declared that Tibetans will never accept a spiritual leader appointed by China.
The resolution that emerged at the 14th Tibetan Religious Conference also says the Dalai Lama alone has the authority to decide how his reincarnation will occur and that no government has the right to interfere in that sacred process. The Conference which began on Wednessday at the headquarters of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in Upper Dharamshala India and concluded today was organised by the Department of Religion and Culture, CTA.
Earlier on his arrival at Gangchen Kyishong where lies the seat of the Central Tibetan Administration, Dalai Lama expressed his fascination with the infrastructural changes that had taken place as he was being led by Sikyong (Tibetan PM in Exile ) Dr. Lobsang Sangay who described His Holiness about the arrangements of new office buildings and upcoming well-equipped Tibet Museum among others. Commending the leadership of the Central Tibetan Administration, His Holness said, “so many buildings have come up that It is unrecognisable. Very good changes have taken place. Good job!”.
