Chandigarh/Fatehgarh Sahib, July 1, 2014: The multi-faceted and ambitious project of the Punjab Government, Atta-Dal Scheme, has proved a big boon for the downtrodden and economically backward strata of the society. In district Fatehgarh Sahib, 2 lacs 60 thounsand and 203 beneficiaries would be provided wheat at the subsidized rete of Rs.1 per kg and pulses at the rate of Rs.20 per kg.

It was disclosed by Adaish Partap Singh Kairon, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Punjab, while speaking to the public during the formal inauguration of the Atta-Dal Scheme at the village Allahdadpur, Baina Buland and Dargerhi. He said that in total approximately 1 crore 42 lacs beneficiaries would get wheat and pulses under the scheme. Kairon said that the government would distribute a composite lot of wheat of six months from the month June to November, 2014 and pulses for three months to all these beneficiaries. He said that the grains and pulses would be dispatched at the level of villages. He further said that the government has been working hard to ensure 100 per cent transparency in this public distribution system. He said that the government has constituted 7 members committees at the level of every village and the members in these committees have been inducted from the beneficiaries itself. He said that it would be mandatory to induct three woman members, one from SC category and one from Backward Castes.

The Food Minister said that under this Atta-Dal Scheme, all those families would be covered, whose annual income is less than 60,000 and who possess less than 2.5 acre land holding and house on an area less than 10 marlas.

On this occasion, Kairon distributed 438 quintal 60 kilo wheat and 20 quintal 57 kg pulses to the 343 families of these villages. He also handed over the blue cards to the new beneficiaries.

He said that in Fatehgarh Sahib District, 19456 MT wheat was being distributed to 2 lacs 60 thousand 203 beneficiaries of 69979 families.
