113 lac tonnes wheat procured in Punjab

Chandigarh, May 14, 2014: The procurement process of Wheat in Punjab is in full swing with various Government agencies and private millers procuring more than 11327343 tonnes of wheat till last evening against 10923149 tonnes procured on the date last year. The procurement process is galloping towards target of 115 Lakh tones for the Rabi Marketing Season with more than one lac tones of wheat being procured in 1757procurement centers all over the state.
He said that instructions have already been issued to make payment to farmers within 48 hours of lifting of their produce Rs. 13565.76 crore has already been paid to farmers.  
The spokesman of the government said that Out of total procurement of 11327343 tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 11052976  tonnes of wheat till date whereas private traders procured 274367  tonnes of wheat. Till May 13, MARKFED procured 2487133 tonnes (22.0%), PUNSUP procured 2347830 tonnes (20.7%). whereas PUNGRAIN had procured 1871251 tonnes (16.5%) PSWC procured 1279648  tonnes (11.3%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 1107437  tonnes (9.8 %) of wheat. The Central Government agency FCI  had  been able to procure 1768246  tonnes (15.6%).
The spokesman added that District Ludhiana with 884949 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Bathinda with 815149 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 792108 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
