10,000 Jains to go in rally on Sunday to celebrate 2616th Birth Anniversary of Lord Mahavir, Founder of Jainism

Hyderabad, April 7, 2017: Ten thousand Jains in the city to in a rally—Bhavya Shobha Yatra on Sunday in city. The rally is being organised on the occasion of 2616th Birth Anniversary of Lord Mahaveera, Founder of Jainism

Disclosing this in a press note issued in city, Manoj Kothari, Pracharak Committee members said, the rally will be held under the aegis of Sri Jain Seva Sangh. Sri Jain Seva Sangh, is the Apex Body of about 3 lakh Jain Community People of all sub-sects in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The 2km rally will start on Sunday 9th April morning at 9am from Sri Mahaveer Swami Jain Shwetabhar Temple at Feelkhana and will reach Exhibition Ground. Where it will culminate into a meeting -Vishal Dharma Sabha at 11am. The rally will pass through Osman Ganj and Mojamjahi Market.

The birth anniversary of the 24th and the last Tirthankara of the Jains, Vardhman Mahavir – the founder of Jainism, is celebrated by the Jain community every year.

Born a prince in 599 BC, Mahavir renounced worldly life at the age of 30 and undertook austere penance until he achieved realisation. Jains visit the sacred sites and go on pilgrimages to holy places on this day and worship Teerthankars, they added.

Jains also appealed to the government to close slaughter houses for one day on the occasion of Mahaveer Jayanthi. GHMC considered their request and ordered the closer of Slaughter Houses on Sunday.

Jains have also demanded government to declare Mahaveer Jayanthi as public holiday and also name a street, preferably Ramkote in Hyderabad as Mahaveer Jain Marg or Ahimsa Marg.
