Ferozepur, July 30, 2017: Succumbing under the financial crunch, a farmer belonging to this border area allegedly committed suicide today afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Gurcharan Singh (50) son of Bahal Singh, a resident of Village Sheehapidi in Makhu block of this district.
As per information available, Gurcharan Singh was under stress due to mounting debt. He had around 2.5 acre agriculture land and he had debt over around 7-8 lakh. He had one daughter and son who were yet to be married. As per the information today morning he swallowed poison and ended his life.
When contacted, Harjit Singh, SDM said that the administration will send his case to the state government for ex-gratia as per norms.
It is pertinent to mention here that on May 27, this year, another farmer Kuldeep Singh (45) of village Jhoke Harihar had committed suicide by consuming poison.
