The Vajra Corps on Tuesday commemorates the centenary year of veteran Major (Retd) Kashmira Singh's birth at his residence 371-R, Model Town, Jalandhar.

Jalandhar, April 15, 2014: The Vajra Corps today commemorated the centenary year of veteran Major (Retd) Kashmira Singh's birth at his residence 371-R, Model Town, Jalandhar. The occasion was attended by the Vajra Corps General Officer Commanding Lt Gen Ashwini Kumar Bakshi, and senior officers of the Vajra corps. The birthday was celebrated by cutting the centenary birthday cake by Major (Retd) Kashmira Singh in presence of his family members. The General Officer Commanding Vajra corps on behalf of team Vajra presented a memento and a shawl to Major (Retd) Kashmira Singh on this occasion, Major (Retd) Kashmira Singh was also presented with a shawl and a memento on behalf of Lt Gen Nitin Kohli, the Signals Officer - in - Chief (SO-in-C) and the Col Comdt of the Corps of Signals. A high tea was also organised to celebrate the occasion

Major (Retd) Kashmira Singh was born on 15 Apr 1914. After completing his college, he was commissioned into the Corps of Signals as a Second Lieutenant on 15 Jul 1945. The officer had an illustrious career spanning almost three decades and tenanted important Staff and Unit appointments. The officer also participated in the 1947 Indo-Pak War, Indo-China War of 1962 and Indo – Pak War of 1965. The officer served for almost three years with NCC at Roorkee from 1966 to 1969 and finally retired from service in 1971.

Major (Retd) Kashmira Singh married to Joginder Kaur on 25 Nov 1931. The couple have been blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters. His three sons and one daughter are settled abroad. His only daughter in India is married to a Naval Officer and settled in Noida. Major (Retd) Kashmira Singh is a highly spirited and experienced officer who still reads the news paper without his glasses.
