Top Corporate & Litigating Lawyer at Supreme Court of India interacted with LPU Law Students

Encouraged would-be legal professionals to adopt ‘pro bono public (good for people) Legal Services
Jalandhar, December 4, 2017: Considered to be heroically lawful ‘Robin hood’ in the legal arena, US trained Attorney Prabhakaran Ramachandran visited Lovely Professional University and interacted with 250+ Law students studying at its School of Law. He has not only been a legal advisor and consultant for many US, Korea, German based MNCs & NGOs but also provides free legal services to the weaker sections around. One of the top corporate and litigating lawyer at the Supreme Court of India, Prabhakaran R highlighted detailed knowledge about ‘Jurisprudence’ to the students. With same interest he also shared his experiences as a senior legal officer providing free legal services to the poor people of India and promoted the same culture among budding lawyers at LPU Law School to share their responsibility towards society.

Being himself a ‘pro bono publico (for the good of public) advocate, he advised would-be lawyers and legal professionals to adopt ‘pro bono’ legal services in their career ahead. He informed students that many lawyers provide poor and underprivileged clients with valuable legal advice and support without seeking any professional fee. He informed: “The Constitution of India by virtue of ‘Article 39 A’ directs the State to provide free legal aid to the poor and weaker sections of the society, to promote justice on the basis of equal opportunity. With a view to encourage pro bono legal services the Department of Justice (DoJ), Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, recognizes such a legal assistance by lawyers as a yardstick to be considered for appointment to appropriate positions. ”

Addressing students on the topic ‘Jurisprudence’, Mr Prabhakaran put forth his legal vision. He highlighted how modern jurisprudence came into existence with focus on the first principles of the natural law, civil law, and the law of nations. However, he also extended about ancient Indian jurisprudence which is notable in various available “Dharm Shastra” texts. At that time, there were oral laws and customs which used to be verbally transmitted by one generation to the other. Describing various fields of jurisprudence, he elaborated about various consequences from the operation of legal rules. He explained students to what extent a legal practice affects the psychological well-being of the people; the goal or purpose of law; types of punishment should be permitted; various rights of people; duties to obey the law; and more. Participating Law students shared their happiness on getting valuable guidance.
