Telangana State Sub Junior Sailing Championships 2017 to begin from 22nd July

Hyderabad, July 19, 2017: A record breaking 75 entries have been received for the Telangana State Open Sub Junior Regatta set to start on the 22 July. It will be organized by Telangana Sailing Association and hosted by Yacht Club of Hyderabad.

?75 is a national record over the past 30 years and no regatta sailed in the under 16 category has ever attracted so many entries from across 6 states in the Optimist Class of boat.

The Telangana sailors have been practicing hard at Hussain Sagar across rain storms in heavy weather as is visible on the waters everyday.?

In partnership with the Olympic Association of Telangana and Telangana Tourism and The Marriott Hotel The Telangana Sailing Association will host the largest sub junior event in the country at Hussain Sagar hosted by the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.

Apart from a National record the State team of Telangana will sport a record 35 sailors from across districts like Pargi, Siddipet and Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad

“This is the second edition of the Telangana State Regatta and we are proud to have a record number of entries for Telangana which is almost half the fleet and a record national representation from a cross 6 states” said Lt.Gen KS Rao an Arjuna Awardee and the President of the Telangana Sailing Association.

All the top seeds from across India will participate and the names to watch out for are Telangana’s Durga Prasad who is currently ranked at the top Indian under 16 boy. Neelanand , Anirudh and Navyn Prabkahar of Tamilnadu will be his top contenders.

All three are at the World Championships at Thailand and will be specially flying back to participate.?

Amongst the Girls the top seed is Nithya Balachander of Tamilnadu alongside Tulasi Moova also of Tamilnadu

The local challengers will be Durga Prasad and Morangapally Shrikanth of Telangana and Mahboobie Tungara amongst the girls. Both have been practicing under their coach Suheim Sheikh more recently assisted by a professional.
