Surprise checking in Ludhiana jail

Recovery of cell phones, bidis and electric wires
Ludhiana, July 2, 2017: A team led by Lakhwinder Singh Jakhar, DIG (Jails) conducted a surprise checking in jail and barracks.
The surprise checking began at 4am. The team was comprised of one ADCP, four ACPs, 13 head constables and 400 police personnel.
The checking team was spread into different teams immediately after entering into the jail followed by checking of all barracks.
No jail officer was aware of this surprise checking.
The jail inmates were asked to come out of their barracks with their goods and articles. Then strick checking was conducted.
During checking, 2 mobile phones were receovered one each from an inmate and another was found abandoned. Besides, electric wires and 15 bidis were recovered.
On the occasion, Jakhar told that the checking was donducted very minutely. He lauded the team members for performing their duty in a dedicated and honest manner. He said round the clock police guard and Punjab police patrolling van had been deployed for security of boundary wall of the jail.
The superintendent (jail) Surinderpal Khanna, deputy superintendent (jail) Kamalpreet Singh Cheema and other jail staff was present.
The checking ended at 8am after four hours.
