Chandigarh, January 30, 2015:  An inch towards fulfilling its community responsibility, University Institute of Fashion Technology and Vocational Development (UIFT & VD), Panjab University (PU) in collaboration with Municipal Corporation Chandigarh would organise a skill training programme in Apparel Technology.

The programme has been launched under Employment through Skills Training Programme of National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM). The programme would take place in UIFT premises from 10 February till June 15, 2015. Department students and faculty have taken a lead to promote the programme in nearby villages and surrounding areas, said Dr. Rita Kant, programme coordinator at UIFT.

MC Chandigarh is also facilitating enrollment of youngsters in this programme. These urban under privileged youth can set up own shops or work as employees in boutiques or tailor shops after completion of the course.

The department has urged all academicians and students on campus to bring youth belonging to the under-privileged sections of the society to join this free training program. We are looking forward to support from all strata of society to bring more students to this training programme to empower them for a livelihood said Dr Sween, coordinator, UIFT & VD.
