PUNJAB: List of holidays for 2013


Chandigarh, December 26, 2012: The Punjab government today released a list of 34 holidays for 2013. The government will also observe 20 restricted holidays from which each employee can choose two days to observe as holidays.

Public Offices will  remain closed for Birthday of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (January 18), Republic Day (January 26);  Basant Panchmi and Satguru Ram Singh’s birthday (February 15); Sri Guru Ravidas’s birthday (February 25); Maha Shivaratri (March 10); Shahidi Divas of Bhagat Singh (March 23); Holi (March 27); Good Friday (March 29); Baisakhi (April 13); Dr. B.R.Ambedkar’s Birthday (April 14); Ram Navami (April 19); Mahavir Jyanti (April 24); May Day (May 1); Lord Parshuram Jyanti (May 13); Guru Arjun Dev’s Martyrdom day (June 12); Kabir Jayanti (June 23); Shahid Udham Singh’s martyrdom day (July 31); Id-ul-Fitr (August 09); Independence Day (August 15); Janamashtami (August 28); Sri Guru Granth Sahib Prakash Utsav ( September 01); Baba Sri Chand’s birthday (September 14); Birthday of S. Bhagat Singh Ji (September 28); Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday (October 2);  Agarsain Jayanti ( October 05); Birthday of Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji (October 9); Dussehra (October 13); Id-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) (October 16);  Maharish Valmiki’s birthday (October 18); Diwali (November 3); Vishwakarma day (November 4); Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday (November 17);Guru Teg Bahadur’s martyrdom day (November 24); and Christmas (December 25).

          Restricted Holidays: New Year Day (January 1); Lohri (January 12); Janan Divas Mohamad Sahib (January 25); Nirwan Diwas of Bhagwan Adinath Ji (February 9); International Women Day (March 8); Hola Mohalla (March 28); Buddh Purnima (May 25); Nirjala Ekadashi (June 20); Death Anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji (June 29); Birthday of Baba Jiwan Singh Ji (September 5); Anant Chaturdashi (September 18); Birthday of Baba Banda Singh Ji Bahadur (October 16); Karva Chauth (October 22); Birthday of Sant Nam Dev Ji (October 26); New Punjab Day (November 1); Goverdhan Pooja (November 3) Muharram (November 14) and Jor Mela Fatehgarh Sahib (December 25,26 and 27) are restricted holidays in the Calendary, 2013.

Public Holidays in the State of Punjab during the Calendar year 2013 within the meaning of Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 are Birthday of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji ( January 18), Republic Day (January 26); Birthday of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji (February 25); Holi (March 27); Bank Holiday (April 1); Ram Naumi ( April 19), Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji (June 12); Idu'I Fitr (August 09); Independence Day (August 15); Janmashtami (August 28);  Bank Holiday (September 30); Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi Ji (October 2); Dussehra (October 13); Birthday of Maharishi Valmiki Ji (October 18); Diwali (November 3); Dirthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji (November 17) and Christmas day (December 25).

(Half Days) In addition to the above holidays each employee will permitted to avail any four second half day holidays to be chosen to join the Nagar Kirtan/Sobha Yatra in connection with the list of occasion during the calendar year 2013 are Birthday of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Birthday of Sri Guru Ravi Das Ji, Maha Shivratri, Ram Naumi, Mahavir Jyanti, Vaisakhi, Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji, Janmashtam, Idu'l Fitr, Birthday of Sri Guru Ram Das Ji, Id-ul-zuha (Bakrid), Birthday of Maharishi Valmiki Ji, Birthday of Sri Guru Nanak  Dev Ji, Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tej Bahadur Ji and Christmas Day.
