Chandigarh: Expressing deep grief over the untimely death of Jalandhar-based photo journalist Mr.Tarun Shammi, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday has announced Rs.5 lakh as financial aid for his family members.

The Chief Minister said he shared the pain of the family and the journalistic fraternity over the death of Mr.Shammi, who died on Sunday night due to injuries sustained when his bike fell after hitting a deep pot hole near H.M.V College on May 13. The photo journalist had been working with Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar.

The Chief Minister has also directed the Principal Secretary of Local Bodies to seek a report from the concerned authorities about the incident and to fix responsibility over the Municipal Corporation’s failure to maintain the road in proper condition even after spending crores of rupees.

Shammi, a resident of Gurdev Nagar Jalandhar, is survived by his Mother, wife and two children.
