PU Syndicate endorses program to organise refresher courses related to CBCS

Chandigarh, June 25, 2017: Panjab University, Chandigarh in its Syndicate meeting today, while deliberating on the issue of CBCS, decided to agree it in principle will be implemented in the Affiliated Colleges of PU from the next year. Syndicate endorsed the program to organize refresher courses related to CBCS for Principals and College teachers at different places. The working model for implementation of CBCS across all semesters shall be finalized for uniform implementation for next academic year. The implementation of CBCS in Campus departments shall continue as commenced last year.
The Syndicate, keeping in view their conspicuous service to the University, decided to recommend to the Senate that the title of Professor Emeritus be conferred on the five super-annuated distinguished teachers of the Panjab University namely Prof. B.S. Brar, Dept. of Pol. Science, Prof. Sudesh Kaur Khanduja, Dept. of Mathematics, Prof. B.M. Deb, Dept. of Chemistry, Prof. Suman Bala Beri, Dept. of Physics and Prof.Rani Balbir Kaur, Dept. of Indian Theatre. However, the Syndicate was of the view that a limitation on the tenure be defined for the Emeritus Professorship, a committee shall look into it and submit a report for considerations by the Syndicate during its next meeting.
The Syndicate resolved that the UGC Guidelines regarding preparation of seniority list of teachers would prevail w.e.f. 1.1.2006 for all departments in PU. In the particular context of UBS, the decision of the Court as it stands today (the
matter is subjudice) is that Prof. Deepak Kapur is entitled to be the Chairperson of University Business School(UBS). However, if Prof. Deepak Kapur, for whatever reason, is on leave, then, Prof. Manoj Sharma would be designated as Chairperson, UBS during the period of leave.
The Syndicate reiterated major penalty against complaint of faculty member of Department of Public Administration. It was also decided to send notice for vacating the official accommodation allotted to the said faculty member.
The Syndicate re-affirmed that re-appointment of Prof. Vijay K. Chopra, Department of Evening Studies, had ended on 31.1.2017. The Syndicate condemned the intimidating letters sent by Prof. Chopra to the officers and Syndicate members holding them personally responsible for implementation of decisions of the University. The University shall stand by its officials to withstand the threats of Prof. Chopra.
The Syndicate set the ball rolling for making University vehicle free. It was noted that parking area near Gate No. 1 of Sector 14 can accommodate upto two hundred cars. Option for creating more parking near Gate no. 3 of Sector 25 is to be explored immediately. It was proposed to enhance the frequency of shuttle service between the two parking lots so that waiting time at any bus stop of the shuttle service is not more than 10 minutes.
The Syndicate appreciated the efforts made in making of a Fire Safety document of Panjab University.
The Syndicate recommended meeting of VC, PU with the Education Minister of Punjab to articulate the concerns relating to service conditions as well as salary levels of new college teachers in Punjab State. The VC shall interface with Vice
Chancellors of other affiliated Universities in Punjab.
