Ludhiana, February 22, 2016: Apex Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Punjab) P.D. Sharma has said due to recent Jat agitation in Haryana common man has suffered in various ways. However the worst part was played by private airlines. They raised the fares many times the normal fare. It is appropriate that those who have travelled by paying this exploited rate should file Public-Interest Litigation (PIL) in High court. Our society is highly exploitative in nature and lesson should be taught.

This Chamber has written a letter to Prime Minister regarding Jat Agitation in Haryana. The copies of this letter have also been sent to Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court of India & Chief justice, Punjab & Haryana High Court. The letters reads as under:
“Common man was getting severe beating of sorts due to violent agitation of Haryana on one hand and the worst was happening on the other hand.
All types of movements through Haryana were blocked. The only opening was through Air. This transport mode is operated by the so called stalwarts of society.
Now see the definition of stalwarts. The private airlines boosted the fare
many–many times the actual operative rate.

If agitators of Haryana were exploiting the citizens these so called stalwarts were doing the worst in this respect. Agreed, they were doing this in subtle manner so as not to spoil their gentleman’s robe.
Few years ago there was natural tragedy in America and citizens were stranded at a particular place. One of the eating outfits charged for the eatables at a very exorbitant rates. People ate and paid this rate. Thereafter lawyers went to court to fight against this exploitation. The court asked the government as to why this was allowed. The reply was very apt. In fact the shopkeeper would have stopped the supply of eatables if checked and people would have suffered. Therefore lawyers convinced the court that this is the right time to act. Lesson to be learnt from this happening will be very enduring and everlasting. Court punished the exploiters by sending them to ten years imprisonment.
Such exploitations are recurring in nature in our country in various forms. The present exploiters should be punished suitably.
I, therefore, urge upon you to take suitable necessary action. Your government is already doing its utmost to prevent exploitation of sorts and establishing new norms.”
