National Unity Day being celebrated at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar on Friday.

Amritsar, October 31, 2014: Guru Nanak Dev University celebrated “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” (National Unity Day) today on Sardar Patel’s Birth Anniversary to spread the message of unity.
The students of university were administered the Rashtriya Ekta Divvas pledge by Prof Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar for the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also to strive hard to spread this message among fellow countrymen. The pledge was taken for the spirit of unity of our country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel. 
During this occasion run for unity was organised and around 500 students took part in this run. Dr. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. H.S. Randhawa, Deputy Director Sports & Head and other staff and faculty members were also present at this moment.
Meanwhile, Music Department of the University also organised a programme ‘Jashan-e-Aman’. Prof. Gurpreet Kaur, Head of the Deparment presided over the function. Bhai Gurdas Library of the University organised an exhibition of books and photographs of Sardar Valabhbhai Patel. Dr. H. S. Chopra, University Librarian gave details about the exhibition. Contribution of Sardar Patel to the unity of India is unparallel and such events shall surely make the younger generation be familiar with and aware of this great hero. Sports Department, Food Science &Technology and Pharmaceutical Departments also held functions on this Day.
