Jalandhar: Sports are the epitome of hard work and dedication. Cambridge International School, Chotti Baradari-II, Jalandhar, wholeheartedly believes in the motto "Education through Sport" as it gives wings to our young learners to attain excellence, success, confidence and self-esteem in them. The main motive is to prepare the young people of today with the necessary skills that will allow them to become future productive citizens of society. Therefore, the young and spirited players of Cambridge International School keep participating in various events and outshine in maximum of them.
A National record setter and garnering laurels is our new Sprint King Gurindervir Singh who has a list of achievements to his credit. Gurindervir Singh set a new record of 10.74 seconds beating the previous 6 years record of 10.77 seconds in 100 mts sprint, in the 14th Youth National athletic Championship in Hyderabad. Hailing from a sports background , he has been consistently training himself to achieve something ‘great’.His blazing run in Hyderabad earned him a berth in various world level competitions. Gurindervir’s ambition is to finish the 100 mts sprint with the time of 10.70 seconds and win a medal in Youth Asia Athletics Championship to be held in Thailand, Bangkok from May 20, 2017 to May 25, 2017.
A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work and his and his coach’s hard work has been paid off by his selection in two other International Tournament- Youth World Athletics Championship to be held in Nairobi, Kenya from July 12, 2017 to July 16, 2017 and also in the Youth Commonwealth Games to be held in Bahamas from July 19, 2017 to July 23, 2017. Chalking out his success story, his coach S. Sarabjit Singh Happy appreciated the efforts that Gurindervir Singh put in to reach this landmark in his life. He is very sure that Gurinder Vir Singh will certainly prove his mettle in the international arena as well and live upto his aim. He says that our glorious ‘Sprint King’, Gurvinder Vir has not only been selected to represent our country but will bring pride not only to the nation but also to the family and school.
Another feather in the Golden cap of CIS is the young marksman Fateh Singh Dhillon of Grade XII who attained No.1 rank in India, as per the statement of scores, in shooting which was held in Delhi at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges. He had competed in Junior Selection Trials for the same. Now he has also been selected to once again represent our country, he represented India in the ISSF Junior World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun at Gabala, Azarbiajan last year and with great pride clinched the Silver (Team) and saluted the Tiranga and honoured the national anthem as he stood at the podium for the felicitations.
Fateh Singh Dhillon with his international experience and the desire and dream to win the Gold will indeed give a tough competition to his rivals in the 27th meeting of Shooting Hopes to be held in Plzen, Czech Republic from May 23, 2017 to May 28, 2017 and Junior World Championships to be held in Suhl, Germany, a tournament that is held once in 4 years from June 23, 2017 to June 29, 2017.
The proud parents thanked the school authorities for the cooperation from time to time, saying that the teachers were always there for him to help him with his doubts wherever required. Fateh added, “I feel as if I am on cloud nine and for me it's a matter of great honour and pride to be the member of the Indian team and this is certainly not the destination but the first rung of the ladder of success.”
The Sports Coordinator LWES Mr A. S. Sikand congratulated both Gurinder Vir Singh and Fateh Singh Dhillon for the glorious achievement and gave the credit to their hard work, perseverance and also to the motivation and inspiration kindled by the parents, teachers and their respective coaches. He added that Cambridge Schools has always and will always stand by and appreciate the outstanding achievers in sports. Ms Harpreet Kaur and Mr Anurag Bhardwaj, the Deputy Sports Coordinators LWES, also congratulated the achievers and their parents and promised to also support the upcoming sports stars.
On this occasion, Chairman Mr. Ajay Bhatia, Deputy Chairman Mr. Deepak Bhatia, Executive Director LWES Mr. J.K Kohli, CEO LWES Dr. Brijesh, Director LWES Mr. Nitin Kohli, Chief Education Officer LWES Ms. Deepa Dogra, Secretariat LWES Ms Geeta Mahajan, Ms. Meenu Huria, Ms Smita Verma and Principal CIS Ms Kiranjoth Dhillon applauded both of them on taking part in the various international tournaments and wished them luck in the pursuit of their goal.
The school authorities extended their heartfelt congratulations to their parents on this golden moment. They also applauded the efforts of the sports department who left no stone unturned in extending support and guidance to them which was instrumental in creation of such success stories within the walls of Cambridge.
