Jalandhar, July 12, 2017: In order to inculcate a strong team and sportsman spirit among faculty and staff-members, Lovely Professional University conducts cricket tournament ‘Uni-Staff Cricket Championship’ annually. Through this organization, the faculty members at the university, who are usually seen plying pen or keys of the laptop, play well on the pitch by re-living their early school and college days of youthful energy. This conduction also keeps staff-members stress free from otherwise tight academic and administrative schedule throughout the session. This year, the fifth season of the 25-Day championship declared LPU staff -members’ team ‘We-XI’ as winners and ‘DSA Dragons’ as runners-up. In all 30 LPU teams of some 500+ faculty and staff members participated in the event.

Known for his destructive spells of medium-fast bowling and classic batting skills, former Indian Cricketer Iqbal Siddiqui handed over the glittering Winners’ Trophy to the Captain of the winning team, Prof Varun Kumar and his team-mates. The elite guest of the day, Indian Test Match & Ranji Trophy cricketer, Mr Siddiqui advised all to keep their passion up to lead a stress-free life to further build a healthy nation.

Winning captain Prof Varun Kumar shared: “It is indeed a great initiative of the university where we the faculty and staff-members get golden opportunity to be relaxed and revitalize our energy. Having tight academic schedule throughout the year, we get only these two months, otherwise of scorching heat, where we have some spare time to go for sports’ skills. We have utilized this to the full.” Runners-Up team’s Captain Dr Sorabh Lakhanpal appreciated his team-members for having a fighting spirit and expressed his satisfaction on even reaching to the second position. Similarly, one of the players Sidharath Sharma expressed that it remained a boosting experience, which inculcated team-spirit among all the participants.
