Hyderabad, July 25, 2017: The four day, India’s largest Sub Junior Sailing event concludes here at Yacht Club of Hyderabad this evening.

R.Neelanand of Tamil Nadu Sailing Association won the Overall Trophy Telangana Open Sub Junior Champion.

Durgaprasad of Yacht Club of Hyderabad bagged Overall Trophy Telangana State-Sub Junior Champion. Sanchita Pant of RMYC(Royal Madras Yacht Club) was given away Overall Trophy Telangana Open Sub-Junior Girls Champion. Kongara Preethi of Yacht Club of Hyderabad got Overall Trophy Telangana State-Sub Junior Girls Champion.

B.V.Papa Rao, Advisor to the Govt of Telangana State graced the function as the Chief Guest and gave away Trophies. Meghana Chavali of Yacht Club of Hyderabad bagged three trophies---Overall Trophy Telangana State-Sub Junior Girls Champion, Open Sub-Junior Girls Champion and State Sub-Junior Champion.

M. Binoob of Yacht Club of Hyderabad bagged Open Sub-Junior Champion Trophy.

Vijay Kumar, Meghana, Preethi bagged Gold, Silver and Bronze for being the most promising sailors from the state.

Aryan Thakur from Pune got the recognition as the most responsible sailor.

G. Pritha of MG & G awarded as the Youngest Sailor, R. Alan Paul of TNSA, Under 10 Best Sailor and Laveti Jhansi Priya of Yacht Club of Hyderabad Under 12 Best Sailor.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the awards presentation ceremony, BV Papa Rao said Telangana State would be the single biggest sporting power other than Badminton in next 10 to 15years. The state government has been silently working towards this goal.

We need right people in the right associations. Within few years after the formation of Telangana State we made many associations very active. Some of them were not functioning effectively. The Telangana Sailing Association has focused on junior talent. It is the best way to nurture young talent.

The Sailing which until recently considered as the elite sport is being patronized by downtrodden. Now the sport is democratized. Telangana Sailing Association is doing a good job, Papa Rao said.

Papa Rao appealed to all the sailors and sailing associations to move on to other lakes in the state. The state boasts of little over 40,000 lakes of which at least 200 to 300 lakes can be developed for sailing. To do that, they need to study the wind.

Telangana State Sub Junior Sailing Championships 2017 began on 22nd July and ended today. It has received 71, the largest ever registrations, which is the national record in the last 30years as no regatta under 16 category attracted so many entries

Organised by Telangana Sailing Association, it was hosted by The Yacht Club of Hyderabad, It held in partnership with the Olympic Association of Telangana and Telangana Tourism and The Marriott Hotel. It was the largest sub junior event in the country .
