International Conference on CSR at UBS Ludhiana Concludes

Ludhiana, January 31, 2015: The International Conference organised by University Business School (UBS), a one of the premier management school of northern India, concluded today at its Panjab University Regional Centre Civil Lines Ludhiana campus.

Various issues pertaining to Corporate Social responsibility were presented and deliberated in three technical sessions on Day 2.

Prof.Dr Balwinder Singh General Secretary All India Commerce Association and Head Department of Commerce GNDU Amritsar, CA Vikram Nayyar FDO Panjab University Chandigarh, Prof. MC Garg Haryana School of Business Management GJU Hissar, Ms Gurleen Chawla Assistant Vice President Yes Bank and Dr Sandeep Kapur Head School of Business Studies Panjab Agriculture University Ludhiana, were the chair persons for the conference sessions on CSR Practices, Role of Governemnt & NGO in CSR and Green Technology.

Dr Ravi Inder Singh Coordinator (MBA) UBS Ludhiana while reading the conference report highlighted that in all around 70 research papers that were taken in this 2 days international conference on 30th and 31st Jan 2015, came from diverse disciplines such as Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Commerce, Management and Law, threw light on valuable research ideas related to CSR. The issues that came out included existence of a large gap between society expectations and corporate responsibility actions. Gap was

also observed in the CSR reporting practices of corporates and their implementation.

The valedictory ceremony was presided by Prof. Naval Kishore, Dean College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Shri Mahesh Chander Munjal, Managing Director, Majestic Auto Ltd.

Dr Hardiljit Singh Gosal Director PURC welcomed the chief guests.

Mahesh Munjal gave a fascinating address by showing how a company can walk the talk when it comes to corporate social responsibility. He put across numerous actions like keen mentoring of interns and apprentices and developing their skills and stated that his company is proactive and transparent in paying taxes. He emphasized that the electroplating unit of Majestic Auto Limited is a No discharge unit and in this way also they are contributing to CSR and he took pride in the fact that Hero Majestic motorcycle engine was the first to deliver fuel efficiency of 65 Kms / Litre.

Prof. Naval Kishore congratulated the Director Dr Gosal and faculty, staff and students of University Business School Ludhiana for successful conduction of this International Conference especially that as many as 140 short length research papers were received and around 70 presentations were made, in front of curious participants who asked germane questions and made the sessions more fruitful.
