Ludhiana, October 27, 2014: The Department of Music and the Department of Dance of Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana organised a cultural extravaganza in association with SPICMACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth) and Hospitality partners Hyatt Regency. It was organised with an aim to foster a sense of pride amongst the youth so that they can cherish and preserve the rich and varied culture of India. The maestro of international acclaim, Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, Indian Santoor player, mesmerised the gathering with his performance. The credit of making Santoor a popular classical instrument in the present times goes to him and he has been decorated with a number of awards like Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Shri, Padma Vibhushan and many more.
The event was also marked by the benign presence of the Tabla Player, Ram Kumar Mishra who is the recipient of awards like Taal Mani, Haridas, Laya Bhaskar besides others. They were accompanied by famous Tanpura player, Takahiro Aria. Ranjodh Singh, President, Ramgarhia Educational Council and Chairperson, SPICMACY, Punjab and Principal, Dr Narinder Sandhu extended a warm welcome to the pre-eminent guests.
While speaking on the occasion, Ranjodh Singh averred that such events facilitate awareness among youth about the subtle and rich arts of India. Dr Narinder Sandhu added that Indian Musical Instruments provide us with a sense of rootedness and keep us reminded of the melody and symphony they are capable of offering.
Jagtar Singh, Secretary, Ramgarhia Educational Council stressed on the importance of such concerts for preserving the ancient art forms of the country.
Atul Talwar, General Secretary, SPICMACAY, said that their long association with RGC has been instrumental in bringing about a change in the taste in music as far as the youth is concerned. Glenn Peat, General Manager and Ravneet Kaur Gurm, Manager, Hyatt Regency were the Hospitality partners for the concert.
