FOUR LAKH CITIZENS DIAGNOSED WITH SYMPTOMS OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
CHANDIGARH, MAY 18, 2017: The Punjab Health Department on the occasion World Hypertension Day commenced a consistence awareness campaign to drive home the citizens of the State about the healthy life styles practices besides sensitizing them about the ill effects of hypertension. The Department also issued advisory to all the citizens of the state to get their routine health checkup especially measurement of blood pressure done at all the government hospitals.

Disclosing here today, Minster for Health & Family Welfare Punjab, Mr. Brahm Mohindra said that in the modern society every citizen is behaving like a machine that they don’t find any spare time for their health checkup. He said that this is the cause why the people across the world are falling prey to various deadly chronic diseases. He said that this is an eye opener for all of us to know that as per a survey every third citizen after 10 is suffering from hypertension. He said that the primary cause for the spread of these chronic diseases is the ignorance among the masses about the healthy life style and the need for health checkup.

The Health Minister said that as per advisory from the World Health Organization every citizen should get their blood pressure measurement done at regular intervals. He said that in first of its kind initiative the Health Department has launched dedicated awareness vans especially to generate awareness about the various ill effects of hypertension and the expert advice regarding how to prevent the spread of this disease.

He said that in order to make people aware about these chronic diseases , the Health department is launching awareness vans that will make people aware about hypertension in all the districts of the state and also impart education regarding value of routine exercise, evening and morning walk and other resources to maintain a healthy life. Mr. Mohindra further said that instructions have also been issued to the health department for the smooth and hassle free delivery of health services in the government hospitals.

Mrs. Anjali Bhanwra , Principal Secretary Health has stated that so far 21 lakh people have undergone preliminary health checkup in government hospitals and about 4 lakh people have been found to have symptoms of high blood pressure. He said that the health department has organized awareness and health checkup camps at PHCs and CHCs in the rural area of state.
