Himachal government ensuring quality education to youth: Virbhadra Singh

Shimla, June 22, 2017: Not only in educational institutions, but discipline is required in every sphere of life whether in family or in the society, said Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh while presiding over the centenary celebration function of Government Senior Secondary School, Mamleeg in Solan district today.

He said that education is a road to success. It is the road for children to reach their full potential in life. A child without education is like a bird without wings, he said. Many children around the world do not get a quality education where they can learn, but in Himachal Pradesh there are as many as 15, 500 schools in the government sector alone catering to best of the educational needs of the children. Apart from this, there are 126 colleges in the state catering to the higher educational needs of the youth and the recent 47 colleges opened by the present government have been opened in far flung areas where the girl students have outnumbered the boys.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government has started ‘Prerna Plus’ scheme for students of 1st to 5th class for enhancement of learning ability and ‘Prayas Plus’ for 6th to 8th class students for enhancement of learning ability in science and math to make education more qualitative.

He said as per the report, the State has been ranked as the first state in field of education in an independent survey by Annual Status of Education Report. The state was also awarded at national level beating Kerela in learning outcomes. The achievement level of Government schools is 65.3 per cent and 47.4 percent, in language and math respectively as compared to the national average of 41.6 percent a 21.1 per cent respectively in above streams.

The Chief Minister said that education inculcates the manners and the attitude of living for the people and while it makes good professionals, it contributes in making a very good human being. Education not only teaches the bookish knowledge but it also teaches the way of living, respect and dignity.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, who was happy to visit his alma-mater while speaking on the occasion said that the school has been achieving many distinctions. He credited the growth in education to the successive Congress governments under the guidance and Chief Ministership of Shri Virbhadra Singh.

The Chief Minister honoured Shri K.L. Azad, who served as headmaster of the school in 1954.

He announced a sum of Rs. 25000 for promoting the cultural activities in the school.

President, DCC Solan Shri Rahul Thakur, Chairman APMC, Shri Ramesh Thakur, Chairman Jogindra Co-operative Bank Shri Mohan Mehta, Member, State Animal Husbandry Board Shri Rajinder Thakur were also present on the occasion amongst others.
