Himachal CM to present State Environment Leadership Awards

Shimla, July 13, 2017: Department of Environment, Science and Technology, Government of Himachal Pradesh is organizing State Environment Leadership Awards-2017: Prize Distribution Function on 15 July, 2017 here in hotel Peterhoff. Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh will preside over the function and give away the prizes.

The Chief Minister will also unveil the book "Compilation of best practices on Environmental Excellence" on this occasion. This publication is a compilation of the best practices adopted by awardees for protection of environment and has the potential to show the path to others. It will serve to motivate citizens to follow sustainable ways that are respectful of nature and environment.

The annual Himachal Pradesh Environment Leadership Awards is open to Urban Local Body excellence in municipal solid waste management, hospitals in bio-medical waste management, hotels/resorts, academic institution (other than schools), schools, office premises, industries, panchayats, Residence/Resident Welfare Societies, restaurants, bus stands, Railway Stations/Airports.

The event will also include presentations on best practices being implemented by various stakeholders in different fields with respect to environment protection in the State. The awards will be in the form of citation along with cash prize of Rs. 50,000 as first prize and Rs. 25000 as second prize.

Himachal Pradesh government has introduced 'Himachal Pradesh Environment Leadership Awards' to be conferred annually in order to recognize outstanding/remarkable contribution by institutions/individuals in promotion of environment protection and conservation and sustainable development in the State through inspiring and exemplary initiatives, vision, transformative action on their own. The individuals/NGOs/Institutions from various categories have been shortlisted for the award through a competitive process.
