Officials belonging to Octroi office sitting idle after abolition of octroi from Cantonment Board, Ferozepur.

Ferozepur, July 1, 2017: The trader’s community of Ferozepur cantonment area finally heaved a sigh of relief when the cantonment board officially announced the abolition of octroi last night. It is pertinent to mention that the octroi is still being levied here notwithstanding its discontinuation from others parts of the state more than ten years ago.

Interestingly neither the Cantonment Board officials nor Local MCs had any idea till last night about the status of octroi post GST due to which the local traders were a concerned lot. It was finally at 12 am when the senior officials from the cantonment board made a call to the octroi official and octroi collection was stopped.

Nand Kishore Guggan, President, Beopar Mandal expressed his pleasure over the decision and said that finally the traders belonging to the cantonment board area can about development. “I, on behalf of all the traders thanks to Prime Minister Narender Modi for implementation of GST”, said Ashok Mahar, a trader belonging to Ferozepur cantonment area.
