GST on agricultural inputs will increase cost of production and lead to price hike: CPI

Says, indirect taxes on common people have increased after GST
Ludhiana, July 24, 2017: Communist Party of India (CPI) District Ludhiana expressed deep concern over the GST imposed on the agricultural inputs which will further push the already suffering farmers into deep crisis. The cost of agriculture inputs will increase by 12% to 28 % adding to the cost of agriculture produce.
Under the leadership of District Secretary Com.Kartar Bowani, Dr.Arun Mitra, Com.D.P.Maur, Com.Ramesh Rattan, Com Gulzar Goria , Com.Gurnam Sidhu and Com Bharpoor Singh, members of CPI organized protest march from the statute of Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha to New Courts where they offered themselves for arrests.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that the tax on the fertilizers was 0 to 8 % till date but now it has been increase to 12%. The cost of DAP and Potash bags will increase substantially. Tax on the tractors has been increased from 5 to 12 % and on the spare parts to 28%. This will add to an excess burden on rupees one lakh crore on the farmers. This will further push the marginal farmers into deep poverty and the incidents of suicides are likely to increase. The indirect taxes have increased after GST putting excess buden on common man. They further said the party is organising Satyagrah all over the country. In addition the demand for complete waiving off the loan to farmers, increase in minimum support price, implementation of Swaminathan Committee report, social security to the agriculture workers and housing for them were highlighted.

Kewal Singh Banwait, Gurnam Singh Gill, Chamkaur sngh, Gulzar Pandher, Jasbir Jhajj, Balwinder Galaxy, Amar singh Bhattian, Sohan Singh , Ajmer Singh , Tarlochan Jhande, Vijay Kumar, Jagdish Bobby, Bhagwan Singh, Ram Partap, Ramreet, Lalit kumar, Kameshwer, Ram Chander, Saroj Kumar, Anil Kumarm, , Kulwant Singh, Baldev Jhajj, Anod Kumar and Ramadhar Singh were among those present.
