Ludhiana, May 18, 2017: A Professor of the History of Science at Harvard University, Gabriela Soto Laveaga, visited Punjab Agricultural University on 17th May in connection with her research on the history of the green revolution.

While interacting with senior university scientists, Gabriela said that she was interested in evaluating the role of Mexican and Indian scientists during the period of green revolution and transform the narrative from one of food aid and scientific aid (from the USA) to instead a fuller understanding of existing research in each of these countries. “The extension programe at PAU, linking the farmers with the scientists”, is what makes the state farmers prosperous”, she remarked.

Later, Prof Laveaga spent time taking notes at the crop museum and the rural museum.

To facilitate her understanding of technology transfer to farmers, the scholar also visited the university’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Noormahal, and held discussions with scientists and farmers.
